Plantar Fascitis

Plantar Fascitis

Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain. It involves inflammation of a thick band of tissue that runs across the bottom of your foot and connects your heel bone to your toes (plantar fascia). Plantar fasciitis commonly causes stabbing pain that usually occurs with your first steps in the morning. In fact, the pain usually occurs whenever you’re off your feet or any period of time. As you get up and move more, the pain normally decreases, but it might return after long periods of standing or after rising from sitting. Under normal circumstances, your plantar fascia acts like a shock-absorbing bowstring, supporting the arch in your foot. If tension and stress on that bowstring become too great, small tears can arise in the fascia. Repetitive stretching and tearing can cause the fascia to become irritated or inflamed, though in many cases of plantar fasciitis, the cause isn't clear.

People that suffer from plantar are usually individuals in retail, hospital/factory workers, teachers, and anyone on their feet for many hours everyday.

At O’Keefe Chiropractic Center, we have many solutions to combat the debilitating effects of PF. Acupuncture and chiropractic care are modalities that really are effective and useful in eliminating the horrific pain associated with PF.  Tools such as laser therapy, micro-stimulation, and trigger pointing are all used as needed to eliminate plantar fasciitis along with stretching and preventative techniques that will eliminate the possibility of a recurrence of plantar fasciitis in the future.
