Acupuncture in Sports MedicineCurrent Sports Medicine Reports 300x300

Acupuncture is one of the more popular types of complementary medicine that athletes use to help control pain, hasten recovery, and treat injury. Acupuncture is also used to treat conditions unrelated to sports participation, such as migraine headache and dysmenorrhea. A recent large-scale survey of Americans' use of complementary and alternative medicine therapies indicated that acupuncture is one of the most utilized forms of complementary medicine.

Acupuncture For Headaches

Acupuncture for headache

harvard health

Individual large-scale clinical studies have consistently demonstrated that acupuncture provided better pain relief compared with usual care. However, most studies also showed little difference between real and sham (fake) acupuncture. In order to address this concern, a 2012 meta-analysis combined data from roughly 18,000 individual patients in 23 high-quality randomized controlled trials of acupuncture for common pain conditions. This analysis conclusively demonstrated that acupuncture is superior to sham for low back pain, headache, and osteoarthritis, and improvements seen were similar to that of other widely used non-opiate pain relievers.

Anti Inflammatory Diet

Anti Inflammatory Diet

Johns hopkins medicineWhile there isn’t one specific anti-inflammatory diet, Snead emphasizes that overall healthy eating patterns can help you get rid of inflammation and stay healthier. In particular, she recommends some food types that can help bring inflammation down:
Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant. Antioxidants help address cellular wear and tear that can set off inflammation.
Polyphenols are naturally occurring compounds in these foods that protect the body from inflammation.

Stretching For Better Health

The importance of stretching

harvard health

Stretching keeps the muscles flexible, strong, and healthy, and we need that flexibility to maintain a range of motion in the joints. Without it, the muscles shorten and become tight. Then, when you call on the muscles for activity, they are weak and unable to extend all the way. That puts you at risk for joint pain, strains, and muscle damage.

Painful Arthritis in Your Knee? Acupuncture May Bring Relief

Cleveland Clinic Logo

Patients with knee arthritis respond particularly well to electro-acupuncture. When knee arthritis is mild or moderate, a limited number of sessions produce very good results. When arthritis is more advanced, or “bone-on-bone,” ongoing acupuncture is needed.

Acupuncture is an alternative medicine practice in which small, thin needles go into the skin at different points on the body.

Traditional Chinese medicine holds that acupuncture works by balancing your body’s flow of energy. Many experts in Western medicine say that the procedure stimulates your nerves, tissues, and muscles.

Health Benefits of Ginger

Fights Germs

Certain chemical compounds in fresh ginger help your body ward off germs. They’re especially good at halting growth of bacteria like E.coli and shigellaand they may also keep viruses like RSV at bay.

Keeps Your Mouth Healthy

Ginger’s antibacterial power may also brighten your smile. Active compounds in ginger called gingerols keep oral bacteria from growing. These bacteria are the same ones that can cause periodontal disease, a serious gum infection.
