Acupuncture is a safe, non-invasive treatment method for a wide variety of mental and physical conditions. At O’Keefe Chiropractic Center, we now have a trained, experienced acupuncturist on staff who can use acupuncture in Medford to treat headaches, stress, insomnia, pre- and post-natal symptoms, chronic pain, and more.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient form of Chinese medicine in which small, sterile needles are inserted into the skin at strategic treatment points. The body is segmented into key areas, each corresponding to a different complaint or ailment. As needles are inserted, the body is stimulated to promote healing and release endorphins. This can ease pain, discomfort, inflammation, circulation issues, and other conditions.

Is Acupuncture Safe?

Yes, acupuncture is a safe, non-invasive, gentle treatment method. There is very little risk of negative side effects from acupuncture treatments.

What Conditions are Treated with Acupuncture?

We can use acupuncture to treat a variety of conditions, including:

  • Headaches and migraines
  • Insomnia
  • Diet and nutrition issues
  • Side effects from medications or medical conditions
  • Promotion of healing post-injury or post-surgery
  • Arthritis
  • Chronic pain and/or inflammation
  • Pre- and post-natal symptoms
  • Fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome

What to Expect When You Visit Us for Acupuncture

When you visit us at O’Keefe Chiropractic Center for acupuncture, we’ll first do a physical exam and take a medical health history. We’ll want to know about any past or current medical conditions and medications, and any past surgeries you’ve had. Next, we’ll discuss your goals with acupuncture, and what to expect from your treatments. When you come in for a treatment, you can remain fully clothed other than the area to be treated. We’ll clean the treatment area and map out a treatment plan. Then, we’ll insert small, sterile needles into strategic areas of your skin. We may leave you alone for a period of time with the needles inserted. We’ll keep the lights low and play soothing music so you can relax. After your treatment, you can immediately resume your normal daily activities.
